For most of us, turning up the thermostat a few degrees is our only preparation for winter, but at Kisharon, getting ready for a colder spell isn’t so straightforward, especially with Covid on the rise.
Staff do turn their attention to the central heating though, making sure it’s fully functional and tell Head Office how many electric heaters they will need just in case it fails when the chill sets in.
Flu vaccinations are arranged and staff see individuals in their care have enough warmer clothing, shoes and bedding to snuggle into during the winter months.
In case there’s a crisis, team leaders check everyone has easy access to all emergency and out-of-hours contact details.
Covid is taking high priority in winter planning this year and staff check their stocks of PPE. As a precaution, Kisharon has stopped employing agency staff to reduce the likelihood of infection.
Every individual Kisharon supports has a risk assessment and these have been reviewed so staff are aware of the potential vulnerability of every individual, and the precautions to be taken against the risk of infection of any kind.
Supported Living Operations Manager Necola Reid-Warner, said: “This is a high-risk season for vulnerable individuals with weather conditions that increase our chances of flu, which can cause other health issues. A winter plan is imperative, especially with Covid, so we can ensure everyone stays healthy and well to reduce the risk of hospital admission.”
