Pesach – we’re pulling out all the stops

03 April 2020

Matzah, afikomen bags – even chrain. Nothing has been forgotten in the drive to give people supported by Kisharon, unable to spend Pesach with their families, the best yomtov ever.

With far more individuals in supported living this year, the determination to make this Pesach memorable has been unprecedented. A comprehensive training programme has given staff, even those supporting individuals at Pesach before, a deep understanding of the rules and regulations.

Meals have been ordered in, including Seder plates and essential Seder kits will be delivered to individuals in supported living.

Rabbi Beni Fleisher, Jewish Life Facilitator, said: “We have worked with the charity GIFT to provide, for those who would like one, a box containing a Haggadah, wine, a bedikat chametz set, an afikomen bag, matzah, chrain, lettuce for the Seder plate and a Pesach education craft set. These will be delivered by volunteers on Monday.”

There are two Seder options. Sedorim will be run at Leeside, Montpelier Rise and other supported living homes, or individuals can tune into one of three mock seders before Pesach starts on Wednesday, led by Rabbi Beni, Kisharon’s Employment and Opportunities Manager, Shlomo Weltman Employment and Chief Executive Richard Franklin.

Volunteers involved in the initiative are teaching those they support about Pesach through Jewish learning, songs and arts and crafts. Easy read sale of chametz forms have been distributed, and advice will be available using Zoom, Facetime or Skype as individuals in supported living search for chametz and seal up chametz cupboards in their kitchen.

Rabbi Beni said: “Because people can’t go home we will make sure they are looked after. We are doing the best we can with modern technology.”
