A boyhood friendship with Yonatan Lev, who was supported by Kisharon until he passed away last year, brought Trustee Yitzy Lerner to Kisharon.
Yitzy said: “At 13, Yonatan was the cutest, loveliest boy and needed friends to be with on Shabbat afternoons. So two or three of us would go to his house, play games or go for a walk together. In the holidays, we went on camp together too.
“A week before he passed away, Yonatan bumped into my mother and talked about our friendship. He never forgot.”
As Yitzy grew older he continued to volunteer at Kisharon and eventually joined the Trustee Board.
Working in property, Yitzy shares his expertise whenever he can but his real penchant is for people.
“I like staff – and everyone – to feel recognised and appreciated and when K-Comms comes out I try to send emails to staff and volunteers I know to say ‘well done’, or ‘happy birthday’. Sometimes I will email the parents of children featured in the stories to make sure they know about it!”
