Excellence at Kisharon

08 February 2017

Kisharon is an excellent place to volunteer, according to a survey of volunteers by the Jewish Volunteering Network (JVN).

Seventy per cent of the volunteers who took part in the survey at the end of last year said Kisharon was ‘excellent’.

Virtually all – 97 per cent – were very satisfied with their volunteering experience.

Kisharon’s huge appreciation of its volunteer force came across strongly with nearly 85 per cent saying they were thanked for their work and felt welcomed and appreciated. Most had an induction session when they started and were given a volunteer handbook.

Most of the volunteers were women, aged between 45 and 65 or over. Twenty per cent were under 25. Most helped out regularly, with almost 80 per cent coming in every week.

In general the volunteers had applied directly to Kisharon.

Here’s what the volunteers said:

“I believe in what Kisharon does and think it is an amazing organisation. I feel privileged to be able to help out.”
“I can see how I have grown as a person by volunteering my time to visit the men, and I have seen the positive impact this has had on the men’s social skills and independence. This is really satisfying!”
“I really enjoy working at Equal in Temple Fortune. The volunteers are all such lovely people and the staff at Kisharon are extremely supportive.”
“The work is challenging and Kisharon is supporting me as much as I am supporting them.”
“I feel really good about being allowed to spend time with these amazing kids.”

Kisharon Volunteer Co-ordinator Francine Haagman, said: “It’s gratifying to know just how much the volunteers enjoy their time at Kisharon. Their comments were particularly heartwarming. Our volunteers do amazing work. They inspire us every day.”
