Truly outstanding!

28 April 2015

At only 12 years old, Keshet Dor is a remarkable young woman. She raised £300 for Kisharon on her batmitzvah, collected money on Purim, helped for a week at Tuffkid Nursery and has become a buddy to Kisharon Day School pupil Elias Castleton, 10.

“Keshet is a lovely girl and is absolutely amazing with Elias. He really enjoys spending time with her,” said Elias’s mum, Emma.

Now Kisharon’s Volunteer Coordinator Lara Domjan wants to nominate Keshet for a Jewish Volunteering Network youth award. “Keshet’s contribution to Kisharon is amazing,” she said.

But that’s not all. Outside of Kisharon Keshet’s desire to help others knows no bounds. She runs children’s services at her synagogue, is raising money for a friend to represent the UK in the Maccabi Games in Berlin this summer, makes sandwiches for people who are homeless and cooks every week for the charity Gift.

Jay, Keshet’s mum said: “Keshet is a joyful, sunny child who skips her way through life. She loves young children and has a special interest in those with disabilities. She is known as the Pied Piper – wherever she goes, a gaggle of children follow.”

In June this year, Keshet will collect a Yoni Jesner Award Plus given to those notching up more than 50 hours’ volunteering in the current school year. Keshet is set to achieve 100 hours.

“The world stands on three things: Torah, the service of G-d, and deeds of kindness.” Kisharon looks at the person not the disability, teaching Torah, Middos and Mitzvot embracing and cherishing everybody’s special talent and bringing out the best in them.
