Kisharon will be Mitzvah Central on Mitzvah Day on Sunday, with the people we support doing good deeds for others and opportunities galore for volunteers wanting to help us.
Already Kisharon people have packed more than 150 hot drink kits, sachets of tea, pots of milk and a biscuit packed inside a cup. These will be distributed to the charities Homeless Action Barnet and All Aboard on Mitzvah Day.
Learning what a mitzvah is and where they are mentioned in the Torah with Head of Jewish Living, Sara Levin, set the groundwork for Kisharon people to give back to the community and do good deeds of their own.
Rachel Ucko, Kisharon’s Community Inclusion Coordinator, said: “Mitzvah Day is a great opportunity for us to showcase the work we do and how we upskill the people we support. They are used to being on the receiving end of mitzvot, but we are showing that they too do good deeds. This is a tribute to the hard of work Kisharon staff, all the teaching and the opportunities we’ve created.”
In other Mitzvah Day activities, we’re supporting the humanitarian aid charity Goods for Good. Our collection points are Kisharon’s Head Office on Friday 18 November 9am-12pm, and the Kisharon Gifts and Homeware Store, Equal, on Friday 18 and Sunday 20 November, 10am-1pm.
Please bring winter coats, hats, scarves, warm children’s and adults’ clothing, new underwear, shoes or boots, toiletries and bedding. These items will be sorted and packed by people we support and distributed to people in need in the UK and Ukraine.
Also on Mitzvah Day, we’ll be planting bulbs and painting the fences at Childs Hill Library. Adults in supported living will write letters and draw pictures for Jewish Care.
