Richard says…

01 May 2020

More than seven weeks after Kisharon’s lockdown, it is abundantly clear that I am in the service of truly remarkable people.

People we support, their families, staff, volunteers and supporters alike  –  everyone is pulling together.

All Kisharon services, except the public-facing social enterprises and employment programmes, have remained operational throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is largely due to the otherwise unheralded procurement team who ensured Kisharon had Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before demand peaked –  protecting  people with learning disabilities, support workers on the very frontline – and as a consequence, protecting their families too.

The selflessness and bravery of our staff ensures that 15 assisted living sites remain supported 24/7, and that Tuffkid Nursery, Kisharon School and Kisharon College, as well as Day Opportunities, are offering essential programming throughout the lockdown. Vital too has been volunteers’ assistance delivering essential food supplies and materials for lessons –  as well as delivering challot alongside grape juice for Kiddush and Havdalah.

All this has been achieved with up to 25 per cent of staff in isolation with Covid-19 symptoms and 20 per cent of staff selflessly furloughed on the UK government’s Job Retention Scheme.

However, by far the biggest challenge still remains.

Kisharon is ultimately reliant on community support to raise the further £1m forecast as needed to run our vital services in the absence of an annual dinner, business breakfasts or other challenge events which have all been cancelled because of social distancing. Without this support, the consequences are unthinkable.

It is therefore absolutely essential for Kisharon that everyone who can backs our emergency Carry-on Kisharon Charidy Appeal on 10/11 May by taking a Charidy page either as Kisharon Backer, Team Leader or Ambassador. Please respond now simply by emailing and one of our fundraising team will be in contact.

Thank you and Good Shabbos,
