More than 10,000 viewings for Kisharon film

02 June 2016

Kisharon’s hauntingly powerful 40th anniversary dinner film, which was shot inside a disused long-stay hospital was viewed an incredible 10,000 times in its first ten days.

In the film, Kisharon volunteer Clare Zulman talked about the lifelong impact of seeing her sister, who had severe learning disabilities, put in a similar institution aged just five.

The film brings home how society ostracised and neglected people with learning needs and the huge improvements that have taken place in recent years.

Finding an appropriate location for filming was not easy, explained Karen Benveniste, Co-Managing Director of Vanilla Films. “Most of these disused long-stay hospitals are being turned into flats, but we found one in Liverpool where we shot the film. It was derelict, and we achieved the result we were aiming for.”

Others filmed touring the disused long-stay hospital were Vivian Wineman, whose son has learning disabilities and Dani Jacobson, 20, (pictured) daughter of Kisharon Chief Executive Bev Jacobson and sister to Talya, 21 who is supported by Kisharon.

In its first ten days, the film was viewed more than 8,000 times through the Kisharon website and 1,500 times on YouTube.
