Maccabi Fun Run raises £5k for Kisharon

21 June 2016

Eighty runners cheered on by hundreds of supporters raised £5,000 for Kisharon at the 10th Maccabi GB Community Fun Run at Allianz Park on Sunday.

Among them was Kisharon School pupil Elias Castleton who walked 400m unaided. His mum Emma, doing the 10k run, said: “It was such an achievement for a boy who has only been walking independently for just over a year.” His siblings Pearl and Immanuel took part in the 1km race with dad, Adam.

Chief Executive, Dr Beverley Jacobson completed the 10km and the 5km runs before doing the 1km event on the spur of the moment. “It was a really inclusive event. It was fantastic to see so many people who would not normally be out running, or walking taking part – including many people who had disabilities,” she said.

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis visited Kisharon’s stand and stopped for a photo with Events Manager Jo Lubbock and Lee Zucker, HR Manager. Meanwhile, Fundraising Director Richard Franklin was interviewed by a film crew for Maccabi GB’s film of the event.

Tuffkid Nursery Head Janice Marriott and Teacher Barbara Raymond walked the 5k event, enjoying the sunshine and volunteer Darren Swabel drummed up support as the Kisharon bear.

Richard Franklin said: “We really do appreciate everyone who supported us. It was a great day for Kisharon – and good to be part of the whole community.”

More than 4,500 people took part in the event which raised money for 62 Jewish charities.
