Kisharon celebrates independent living

25 May 2017

Kisharon took part in European Independent Living Day, which was marked in 30 countries across Europe – and as far as Iraq.

Organisers, the European Network on Independent Living (ENIL), campaign for equality, dignity and inclusion for all disabled people.

The event, now in its fourth year, was marked by conferences, panel discussions, film screenings and photography competitions.

The theme of the day was, ‘Things I Can Do Thanks to Independent Living’ and at Kisharon, photos were taken of people in supported living doing their daily chores, showing that the ability and freedom to achieve the ordinary is worth celebrating.

The hashtag #ILDay17 was used to share the organised activities, photos and videos to raise awareness about independent living. During the week following the event, ENIL Facebook and Twitter pages reached 26,771 and 19,000 views. Many events were covered by local TV and radio stations. ENIL marked the day by publishing the first in a series of articles on the effect of cuts on independent living.
