Jobs for all

15 October 2015

Kisharon is heading for even greater success in finding work for adults with learning disabilities, said Shlomo Weltman, Employment and Opportunities Manager.

Eighty per cent of adults supported by Kisharon have jobs. Nationally, less than ten per cent of adults with learning disabilities are in paid work.

“Everyone who wants to work has some kind of opportunity to do so. It creates independence and makes these individuals integrate more into the community,” said Shlomo, whose work won Kisharon a $50,000 prize from the US Ruderman Family Foundation.

Kisharon supports new employees on their journey to work, helps them to settle in and maintains a close relationship with employers.

“Having this groundwork in place means Kisharon has a strong future in securing work,” said Shlomo.

Requests for jobs from adults with mild learning disabilities have been made recently too.

Shlomo explained: “Adults supported by Kisharon generally have moderate to severe learning disabilities but we have been asked to find work for those with mild difficulties as they find it hard to find jobs too.

Has Shlomo encountered any discrimination in the workplace?

Shlomo said: “I find fellow employees, whether working alongside people placed by us or not, go out of their way to make them feel valued and part of the team.”

If you have a vacancy or would like to hear more about how you can benefit from offer employment, full or part time please contact Shlomo Weltman on 020 3393 0174 or shlomow@kisharon.org.uk
