Sarah Gordy, who has starred in Call the Midwife, and was made an MBE in November, is the first person with Down’s Syndrome to receive an honorary degree from a UK university.
Sarah became Mencap’s first official ambassador with a learning disability in 2013 and has appeared in theatre, film and television.
In her speech to fellow graduates at the University of Nottingham, she revealed how, as a child, she was told that her life might be limited.
She said: “Don’t listen to doubt… believe in yourselves.”
