Chanukah presents for everyone – thanks to Kisharon School

22 December 2016

Chanukah presents for everyone this year – thanks to children at Kisharon School.

Pupils at the after-school club will be handing out gifts at home to those who care for them all eight nights of Chanukah.

The children went to the shops and each bought eight small gifts, wrapped them individually, made and decorated their own box and placed them inside ready for candle lighting each evening. The children also added a wrapped box of Chanukah candles for their own chanukiah.

Jes Waldman, Extra Curriculum Coordinator, explained: “While children generally get a present each night of Chanukah, parents and carers tend to be forgotten. This year it’ll be different. The children chose eight smalll gifts like chocolate, a dreidel or crisps and wrapped them up ready to hand out each evening.

“This was our Chanukah activity. We wanted the children to take responsibility for selecting, wrapping and distributing their gifts. The money to buy them came from our after-school club resources fund. In past years we have made chanukiahs with the children – but they all probably have several at home from previous years.”

Jes paid tribute to after-school club volunteers Lucy Barrie, Mia Abrams and Coco Vagner. “They are huge assets,” she said.
