It has been a huge privilege to be at the helm as Kisharon celebrates its 40th year.
This anniversary has presented an opportunity to reflect on the past. As part of that journey, I had the opportunity to visit one of the last remaining asylums that, right until 1998, housed individuals with learning disabilities. It was both harrowing and sobering to witness the depravity of this facility.
This experience made me realise how much more enlightened perceptions of disability are today. It made me appreciate just how much of a visionary Chava Lehman was in setting up Kisharon school in 1976.
And it fired me with the passion to ensure that every individual with a learning disability has a place, as an equal, in society.
Thank you to all of you who have helped us get to this juncture, and for backing us as we stride forward.
