Kisharon supported staff on the frontline during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic with Zoom support sessions so they could share experiences and talk to each other about challenging situations.
Kisharon, Langdon and Norwood have commissioned the first ever jointly-commissioned service-mapping exercise to analyse the provision and demand for learning disability services in the Jewish community over the next 10-15 years.
Friendship is the theme of Learning Disability Week, and mum Jane Pearl explains the importance of good friends as she shields Chanochi, 10, a pupil at Kisharon School. “Friends have been a life saver,” she says.
It’s only been eight weeks since they met but in that time friendship has blossomed between Sabrina, a young woman supported by Kisharon and Bushey mum-of-three Eleanor Marco.
Supported Living Manager Afolake Fakeye is everyone’s best friend, and on her first day back after the easing of lockdown there was a queue in the garden at Leeside supported living, waiting to greet her.
“When we are at the edge of chaos, there is energy to make changes,” says Hadassa Kessler, Kisharon’s Director of Operations and Development in Learning Disability Awareness week.
In need of retail therapy? The doors of Equal, Kisharon’s Gift and Homeware Store, are now open. In line with government guidelines, only two customers are allowed in the shop at any one time and there is hand sanitising at the door. You can get your bike fixed too, and even buy a new one, with the reopening of the Bike Shop.
Luck and the generosity of donors gave Kisharon the PPE (personal protection equipment) needed when other care organisations faced severe shortages.
