Tuffkid Nursery won a five star environmental health rating after an unannounced visit by Barnet Council inspectors.
The nursery kitchen and toilet areas came under scrutiny in the inspection which can be carried out at any reasonable time and on any day of the week. Nurseries generally prepare food for the children in their kitchens and the inspectors ensure preparation areas are scrupulously clean.
Head Janice Marriott explained: “The children bring in their own lunches and we use the kitchen to prepare mixes the children use for play – like play dough or cookery sessions.
“But even so, we were very pleased to achieve top marks,” she added.
The frequency of environmental health inspections depends on the use of the premises, with food outlets usually subject to more regular inspections than others.
