Sensory opportunities play an important role in education at Kisharon School where Nina Martinez from the charity Bag Books presented interactive reading sessions for pupils from all classes.
Bag Books contain a selection of hand-made objects relating to a particular story for pupils to touch, stroke or smell. Created for children with complex learning disabilities who don’t always respond to conventional story telling, the objects are passed around giving the children a different sensory experience for each sentence of the story.
Class Teacher Stella Lilikaki said: “It was a lovely experience for the pupils. They all enjoyed listening to the stories which are told interactively through voice and emotion rather than words and pictures.”
