The fire damaged cabins at Parson St. have now been cleared away completely, leaving a large expanse full of potential. No decision has yet been reached on how they will be replaced (i.e. with similar cabins, or with a somewhat different structure), and we do not yet have confirmation from our insurers as to what level of contribution they will make to the replacement costs.
We haven’t yet heard any final conclusions from the three teams of investigators (the London Fire Brigade’s, our insurers’, and our neighbours’ insurers’ forensic teams) as to the precise cause.
Meanwhile, we have now regained use of the garden and activities have resumed largely undiminished by the loss of the cabins: we are making more use of alternative facilities such as local sports centres. We have also started regular visits to Mapledown School, which is kindly allowing our service users to make regular use of their excellent pedal go-karts and trikes and their wonderful racing track.
The fire-damaged area of the garden has to be kept securely boarded up as the soil is badly contaminated with shards of glass and metal, and possibly all sorts of toxins. However, the wooden hoarding has provided us with a wonderful expanse of pristine white space that were beautifully decorated during the Volunteer Celebration and Raffle Draw party.
