The UK’s first ever state-of-the-art facility to cater for all Jewish children who experience complex special needs opens at the Kisharon Day School in Temple Fortune on August 31st 2010.
This High Support Centre has been created to cater for the steadily growing number of children who, in addition to their severe learning difficulties, have other significant challenges, such as physical disabilities, sensory impairment or a severe medical condition. These children require a high level of adult support, for their personal care as well as for their learning needs. Until now there has been no provision in the Jewish community to cater for this level of need and parents have faced the painful dilemma of having to uproot the whole family from the UK to find this degree of specialist support, usually in Israel.
The new facility at Kisharon will offer intensive therapeutic intervention which will be integrated into a highly specialised daily teaching programme. The facility will be furnished with a range of special equipment including ceiling hoists, standing frames, special sensory equipment and full wheelchair access. The facility will open onto a specially designed and equipped playground, which will function as an outdoor classroom. And all this excellence will be delivered within a rich and loving Jewish environment.
This Rosh Hashanah, Kisharon is dedicating its appeal to raising funds required to run this new High Support Centre.
