Working a digger was a dream come true for pupils at the site of the new £12.5m Kisharon School where building work is now underway.
The young visitors, accompanied to the Parson Street site by Headteacher Sora Kopfstein, had their first glimpse of the plans for the new school which is due to open in 2020. £12m has now been raised towards the project.
Kisharon Chairman Philip Goldberg and Fundraising and Communications Director Richard Franklin met project managers to inspect progress on the first phase of the redevelopment.
Philip said: “We are thrilled to have finally begun work on our much-anticipated new school. This development will allow us to offer a state-of-the-art environment to deliver excellence in education and will offer much needed, expanded facilities.”
The new school will be able to accommodate 72 primary and secondary school-aged pupils, including those with profound and multiple learning disabilities and autism.
There will be multiple therapy rooms, a multi-purpose school hall and synagogue and a hydrotherapy pool.
