Mary Portas 'Queen of Shops'

250 women attended Kisharon’s inaugural ladies’ lunch at the Hendon Hall Hotel last Tuesday. The event raised over £20,000 for Kisharon, the charity which provides services for children and adults with learning difficulties in the Jewish community.

The well know retail adviser and TV personality, Mary Portas proved a very entertaining and popular guest speaker. Portas has recently launched a new TV series on Channel 4 called “Mary Portas: Secret Shopper” in which she asks the British public to name-and-shame, or, name-and-fame the best and the worst customer service in the UK. With a mix of humour and candour, Portas inspired the crowd to demand more. Illana Ellison, who is supported by Kisharon, gave the vote of thanks.

After a sumptuous main course, Leanne Orkin, whose daughter Skyla attended Kisharon’s Tuffkid nursery a few years ago, delivered a very moving and brave account of how Tuffkid helped her and her family come to terms with Skyla’s disability.

Chief Executive of Kisharon Beverley Jacobson said “The lunch drew new supporters from all over London and this provided a perfect opportunity to promote Kisharon’s broad range of services. We need people to know about Kisharon as we want to be able to help and support every child and adult in the Jewish community who needs our services.”
