Kisharon and Mencap met the Childs Hill community at an open meeting in the run up to operating the local library, from next month, (April).

The open meeting  was aimed as a “listen and learn” initiative designed to find out more about local needs. On hand were Hannah Richens, Libraries Manager at Barnet and Billie Lockhart and Sophia Sewell from Barnet Mencap, who all spoke positively about the afternoon. Barnet Homes also spread the word about the job clubs planned for the Childs Hill area.

Several ideas were put forward – including a coffee morning and the continuation of a Lego club. Twelve people signed up to volunteer at the library.

The meeting was well attended by local councillors and members of community groups including The Hope of Childs Hill, (THOCH).

Neha Dhakar, Kisharon’s Social Enterprise Manager – Partnership Library, is now gearing up to manage the library and over the course of this month Barnet Council will train the library volunteers.

Neha said: “We’re very pleased with the community’s response and look to build on this momentum when the library is up and running in April.”
