Newest Kisharon Trustee, Joanne Greenaway, on the board for 18 months, says she is on a steep learning curve.

“It is an amazing opportunity to learn from a very experienced group of trustees, and it takes time to find out how it all works,” she said.

Lawyer Joanne, a Get caseworker for the London Beth Din, and involved with child protection in the United Synagogue, enjoys learning and teaching and is part of the Gamechangers programme for senior Jewish community leaders.

At trustee meetings, her views are sought on legal matters, and she is soon to involve herself in the issue of child protection and safeguarding at Kisharon.

“I try to bring a fresh perspective and be a critical friend, raising points that have not been brought up before. Kisharon’s professional staff are so good the trustees’ role is one of oversight and encouragement and not interference.”

Joanne is passionate about Kisharon’s burgeoning social enterprises on the grounds they grant autonomy and empowerment.

With four children under 11, Joanne is enthusiastic too about the potential of the new Kisharon School. “Children with severe disabilities and special needs will be able to benefit from excellence and a cutting-edge education in the community.”

One event in which she has participated wholeheartedly is the Moonlight Walk in April this year, raising £1,500. She plans to do it next year but this time in the company of her oldest daughter, Elia, ten.
