Fifth Kisharon anniversary for volunteer Malcolm Curzon

11 August 2016

Former director of Habitat, Malcolm Curzon is paid these days in gratitude, rather than pounds, as a volunteer chartered accountant at Kisharon.

Malcolm who lives in Bushey, began volunteering at Kisharon five years ago. Semi-retired and with some free time, he realised that his professional skills could be a huge asset to any charity and, through the Jewish Volunteering Network, was directed to Kisharon.

Working alongside Paul Darnell, Director of Corporate Services, one day a week, Malcolm produces accounts for the Kisharon Charitable Trust and, using financial spreadsheets ensures that the income intended by local authorities to cover the support required by individuals with learning difficulties actually covers the services Kisharon provides.

Malcolm said: “I enjoy coming to Kisharon because it supports users from a very young age right up to adulthood, in supported living. Monitoring and supporting clients through all these stages means that you get an overview of what is a very complete service.”

Although Malcolm can be found mostly at Parson Street he has worked at Kisharon’s Print Shop and the Bike Shop when engaged in financial projects at the Asher Loftus Business Centre. He drops in at various staff celebrations and events. “I do try to get about a bit,” he says.

Now fully retired, Malcolm is a Trustee of his local Citizens Advice Bureau as well as working at Kisharon. He also spends time with his four grandchildren.

He said: “I like Kisharon’s ideals and enjoy volunteering there very much.”

“The world stands on three things: Torah, the service of G-d, and deeds of kindness.” Kisharon looks at the person not the disability, teaching Torah, Middos and Mitzvot embracing and cherishing everybody’s special talent and bringing out the best in them.
