Peter wins volunteering award

07 September 2015

Kisharon volunteer Peter Lewinson has won the Jewish Chronicle’s People’s Choice award, presented at the Wohl JVN Volunteering Awards ceremony.

Readers of the Jewish Chronicle voted online for the winner from a shortlist chosen by JC editor Stephen Pollard and the JVN (Jewish Volunteering Network).

I didn’t expect to win – I am speechless,” said Peter from the awards ceremony at Finchley Synagogue. Peter teaches literacy skills to adults with learning disabilities at Kisharon’s day centre in Hendon and runs a gardening project at Tuffkid Nursery in Golders Green.

As a result, Kisharon wins £500 towards its work. “I am so happy, but happier still for Kisharon,” he added. Talking of the success, Kisharon Chief Executive Dr Beverley Jacobson said: “Our volunteers are our greatest asset – it is a privilege to honour their efforts and commitment and Peter epitomises this more than anyone. His award is so well deserved.”
