Chief Executive Bev Jacobson, whose parting gift is to raise funds by taking part in the Mont Blanc Marathon for the new Kisharon School, is nearing her £75k target.
She is intending to endow a classroom in the name of her late father, Dr Bentley Phillips and has raised £70k to date.
Bev, a seasoned marathon runner admitted that the 42k Mont Blanc Marathon was tough. “Although I had anticipated it being difficult I could never in my wildest imagination have envisaged the steepness and length of the mountain paths we were expected to ascend at a fast pace, charge down and then ascend again. It was gruelling and the 32°C heat certainly contributed to the challenge,” she said.
The perils of the mountainous course were best brought home by the mandatory equipment participants needed. This included a headlamp with spare batteries, a working mobile phone, a whistle, a survival blanket and an ID card with a photo.
During registration, officials checked entrants were aware of the arduous nature of the marathon and asked for a medical certificate and their insurance.
Bev was one of 2,500 entrants in the event which started from Chamonix, near the borders of Italy and Switzerland.
