Bev says…

16 November 2017

This week is the 8th national Trustees’ Week which this year celebrates more than 1million trustees who are overseeing 196,000 charities, making the UK the 6th most giving country in the world.

Paula Sussex, Chief Executive of the Charity Commission, launched the 2017 Trustees Week saying “Trustees who give their time for free to help charities run more effectively…are unsung heroes and I want to thank them for their hard work and dedication.” Nowhere is this more true than at Kisharon.

Kisharon is very fortunate to have a truly dedicated team of trustees who are rich in experience in diverse fields and have business acumen and vision which they use to drive the charity forward and champion the learning disability cause. Their collective commitment, effort and talent has seen Kisharon enjoy remarkable growth and development over the last eight years.

During this time Kisharon has grown to serve many more children and adults with learning disabilities through its existing services and myriad of new ventures. The latter includes the development of an employment programme, a supported living service, various social enterprises and a further education provision. This growth has fuelled a substantial increase in Kisharon’s turnover which in turn has been invested in improving the quality of the services provided. One of the most exciting outcomes of this has been the approval of Kisharon School as a Free School and now plans are in progress to develop a new state-of-the-art school facility to accommodate 72 children for the 2019 academic year.

All this could not have been possible without the fantastic leadership of the Kisharon trustees and both the organisation and the wider community are indebted to them for working voluntarily and tirelessly to protect and promote the most vulnerable in the community. This week’s K-News is dedicated to highlighting their work and thanking them for their gigantic efforts on our behalf.

“The world stands on three things: Torah, the service of G-d, and deeds of kindness.” Kisharon looks at the person not the disability, teaching Torah, Middos and Mitzvot embracing and cherishing everybody’s special talent and bringing out the best in them.
