Bev says…

17 August 2017

Traditionally, August is the time of a summer lull, yet Kisharon is frenetic with activity.

Tuffkid Nursery is being transformed inside and out with an enchanted wonderland under creation in the garden. The garage at Leeside Crescent is being demolished to pave the way for two additional supported living flats. Major repairs are taking place at the school where the floor has collapsed, and this serves to reinforce the desperate need for new premises. Final planning is underway for the exciting new vocational skills course we will be running in partnership with New City College…and these are just the easy challenges!

More difficult is our tight timetable to find new premises for our head office and adult day service. At the same time we are attempting to create greater cohesion between day activities, education services, supported living and employment.

Uncertainty and change often create difficulties but this is not the case here at Kisharon. The atmosphere is charged with creativity and excitement. How is this possible?

Every individual working at, and for, Kisharon thinks only about the children and adults we support and strives to achieve the best outcomes for them. This is invaluable.

In some ways this mirrors what is regarded as the secret behind The LEGO Group’s extraordinary success. The company had several transformations but each was driven by Lego’s desire to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow.

Executives never spoke about increasing sales, but about giving millions more children access to Lego building bricks. They never mentioned developing new products, but thought about enabling more children to experience the joy of learning through play.

This sense of purpose created the company’s extraordinary results in the same way that the commitment to empower individuals with learning disabilities is achieving astounding outcomes for Kisharon.

Pirkei Avos
“The world stands on three things: Torah, the service of G-d, and deeds of kindness.” Kisharon looks at the person not the disability, teaching Torah, Middos and Mitzvot embracing and cherishing everybody’s special talent and bringing out the best in them.
