A bumper Mitzvah Day for Kisharon

30 November 2016

Learning disabilities charity Kisharon teamed up with three synagogues and Maccabi GB for an action-packed Mitzvah Day.

In Hendon, children from Kisharon’s Tuffkid Nursery enjoyed a Mitzvah Day party hosted by Ner Yisrael Synagogue where they enjoyed arts, crafts, music and games. “It is incredibly kind of Ner Yisrael to host this party every year because the children and their families have so much fun,” said Janice Marriott, Head of Tuffkid Nursery.

Adults supported by Kisharon joined in Radlett Synagogue’s Mitzvah Day when volunteers of all ages packed sweets for Kisharon’s Bag My Treats social enterprise. The men joined in activities such as making cards for refugees and synagogue volunteer Margaret Abrahams showed Simcha Ballon how to knit.

Their visit was arranged by Kisharon volunteer Lisa Silverbeck, a Radlett shul member.

Mitzvah Day volunteers from Alyth Gardens Synagogue joined the sales team at Kisharon’s Equal store in Temple Fortune where they set up a table to attract passers-by. Visitors included Mitzvah Day founder Laura Marks, who is “a big Kisharon fan.”

The afternoon culminated in a Mitzvah Day football match against Langdon organised by Maccabi GB. The Kisharon side included Simcha Ballon, Eli Cohen, Meir Halpern, Eli Sulzbacher, Daniel Yefet, volunteer Ryan Peysner and support workers.

Kisharon volunteer coordinator Lara Domjan said: “We have enjoyed great support on Mitzvah Day from so many other communal organisations and individuals. Thank you to everyone who has made Kisharon’s Mitzvah Day so special – it’s been a bumper year!”

“The world stands on three things: Torah, the service of G-d, and deeds of kindness.” Kisharon looks at the person not the disability, teaching Torah, Middos and Mitzvot embracing and cherishing everybody’s special talent and bringing out the best in them.
