The London skies were lit by lightning, and thunder and torrential rain provided the backdrop for this year’s Moonlight Walk, which raised £20k.
Jo Lubbock, Fundraising Events Coordinator, said: “The storms and lightning were so powerful that it was touch and go whether the walk would go ahead. Despite a complete drenching, all the participants persevered and were still in good spirits when the walk finished at 4am.”
Sixty brave women of all ages, walked 15km through the very wet streets of London. Among the walkers were mums and daughters, supporters who brought along their friends and a group of enthusiastic participants from the Sephardi community. The route took walkers on a nighttime sightseeing tour of London icons.
Walker, Kisharon volunteer Sharon Aboudara said: “At around the 2km mark we realised we simply couldn’t get any wetter, but it wasn’t cold and Kisharon had organised various refreshments to keep us going along the way. I did take spare socks in my bag, but these were even more wet than the pair I was wearing!
“Marshals along the route looked out for everyone and in fact, the weather actually added to the atmosphere and camaraderie!”
